Random Rants & Rumblings: Tumblr Unplugged/Bearpaw High Sierra

claviusrobinsky:

I’m making plans to go to the Bearpaw High Sierra Camp again next year and would like to invite any and all who would like to join. Katie and I will be going no matter what and we’d love to have you all along.

I have to make the reservations on January 2nd in order to make sure the place is…

Random Rants & Rumblings: Tumblr Unplugged goes to sea!

claviusrobinsky:

A few days ago I was thinking about another ‘non-traditional’ meetup of sorts. Instead of going to the mountains we would go to sea.

The more I’ve thought on the idea the more delighted it has made me.

I’d like to go in early summer (mid-June…possibly earlier). The key is a need for30people to…

I know it has only been a month since the last event but the wheels are already turning on what can be done for next year.

I spent some time this weekend looking at the Channel Islands National Park for some personal adventuring and then thought that it might make a great outing for us Tumblr folks.

A rough idea is outlined here by BackPacker magazine. We would obviously be able to modify this to fit our needs.

The advantages of this vs Bearpaw High Sierra

1. Closer to a major airport allowing for greater ease of travel.

2. The trip itself is cheaper. ($108 round trip to the island and 15$ per night for 5 persons)

The disadvantages:

1. This is not an ‘all inclusive’ trip. Tents, sleeping bags and food will all need to be planned for in advance.

2. No hot showers, flushable toilets, jalepeno cheese bread or fresh peach pie.

Let me know what you think?

This looks familiar, vaguely familiar,
Almost unreal, yet, it’s too soon to feel yet.
Close to my soul, yet so far away.
I’m going to go back there someday.

Sun rises, night falls, sometimes the sky calls.
Is that a song there, and do I belong there?
I’ve never been there, but I know the way.
I’m going to go back there someday.

Come and go with me, it’s more fun to share,
We’ll both be completely at home in midair.
We’re flyin’, not walkin’, on featherless wings.
We can hold onto love like invisible strings.

There’s not a word yet for old friends who’ve just met.
Part heaven, part space, or have I found my place?
You can just visit, but I plan to stay.
I’m going to go back there someday.
I’m going to go back there someday

This happened one week ago. Thank you to all that made this event a success. I have already begun planning for next year.

Nature inspires more creative minds
The more you get away from the stresses of daily life and the more time you spend outdoors, the greater your level of creativity. That’s the conclusion from a new study that found a team of backpackers were 50 percent more creative after they had spent four days on the trail.

I know I know I know….

The first ever Tumblr: Unplugged hasn’t even happened yet but I’m already thinking about next year.

Here’s my suggestion: Half Dome. A three day backpacking trip that would include a climb to the top of Yosemite’s infamous chunk of granite.
